painting costs?

how much should/would it cost to have a 20 sprayed, just for the paint and the spraying, ill do all the priming myself, but what would it cost for a boatyard to spray it? also, should i rip out the whole mess of shotty wiring, or try to organize it, daddy says leave it, but i dont think he knows what hes talking about

You would be better off talking with some paint shops in your area. If memory serves me your in Florida...and should have no issues with getting someone to spray the boat.

Be forewarned I've tried to get that same question answered up here and no one is too willing to do it….seems they want all or nothing not to mention they may not guarantee their work with your prep work…Plus much more expensive up north These quotes are for a 23.

Bottom line to get my hull sprayed up here I’ve been quoted $3,000 to 4,000 last quote …was for $150 a foot (third quote) providing there is no major prep work needed. Inside the boat ……. forget about it anywhere from $6,500 to 9,000.

Fellow-Ship has received some much lower quotes….

What about roll and tipping yourself???

If your wiring is truly messed up you should think about replacing it. Chances are corrosion has crawled up the insulation ……. That’s not good.

YOU COULD BE TALKING SOME MAJOR $$$ I GOT QUOTES ALL THE WAY UP TO $6,000 ON A 23’ IN AND OUT INCLUDING DOING THE BOTTOM. I ENDED UP PAINTING IT MYSELF IT CAME OUT LOOKING VERY GOOD WITH ROLE & TIP METHOD. COST ME ABOUT $800 FOR THE PAINT, PRIMER BRUSHES AND TAPE. I HAD SOME ONE ELSE RE GEL COAT THE BOTTOM FOR ME. YOU CAN TAKE THE BOAT FOR QUOTES AFTER YOU FAIR AND PRIME WITH THE PAINT MANUFACTURER YOU WANT TO BE USED ON THE FINAL COAT. THAT WAY YOU WOULD GET THE CHEAPEST PRICE FOR SOMEONE TO JUST TAPE AND SHOOT THE HULL. I GOT ONE GUY TO GIVE ME A QUOTE OF $150 PER APPLICATION OR PASS. SO IF 3 COATS ON OUTSIDE AND 3 COATS INSIDE WOULD HAVE COST $900 AND ME FURNISH THE PAINT AND DO THE TAPE.

I ended up painting myself after a freind in the business quoted me a price of $3,500 just for the painting. What I did was strip the entire boat and marine texed every little nick and scratch then power sanded the entire gel coat from the outer rubrail inward. This alone took over a week, then I primed the inside deck and the upper deck (23' Sceptre model) and used a one part Easy Poxy off white from Pettit. I ended up redoing almost all of the wires, the teak and some fiberglass at the battery boxes. It took me a month but as my brother says it is a brand new boat. My freinds cant beleive it, neither can I. I started with a test hatch to see how it would turn out and after the paint dried, it leveled off and looked very professional. Total cost around $300. Ill be posting pictures soon. Mark
