Sailfish = SeaCraft ???
Sailfish boats claim to have bought the hull design of "old" Seacrafts when Seacraft redesigned their hulls.
Anyone know if this is so? Can anyone help me understand what are the unique details of the older Seacraft hulls? If they were/are superior, why did Seacraft change? Specifically, there is a Sailfish 216 that I am very interested in. Thank you for your help. I do not know who informed you that SeaCraft changed the design of there hull, deck yes, hull no. The design is the same today as it was in the late 60's. So much so that the new 20's mold was a splash mold of an original 1968 20CC from New Jersey and the new 23 mold came from Johnie Morris's own classic 23.
There is no way Sailfish bought anything from SeaCraft as there is no ownership of the design since it is over 30 years old. They definitly did not buy the molds because the original molds are buried somewhere in the Midwest. The only thing Sailfish, Key Largo, and many others have done is COPY the SeaCraft hull. |

What I'm interested in understanding is the benefit(s) of the SeaCraft hull design. To my eye, its uniqueness comes from not having strakes, but rather "steps" in the hull. What are the benefits (and drawbacks) to the ride this hull gives? [img]images/icons/rolleyes.gif[/img] Thanks

The benifits are: The ride quality, which every member of this board will attest to. Very soft and smooth.

If you go to the regular Seacraft web site they have a explanation of the variable dead rise with longitude steps. There are also old topics on this web site that also address the advantages of the method. I tried to find the exact topic for you but I couldn’t find it.
