Transom R/R procedure on a 23' Tsunami
I will be attacking my transom job very shortly. I will be going in from the inside.
I have a few questions for those who have " been there, done that ": I would rather not take the top, stern cap off. But, I cannot think of another way to get to the very rotted stern towing-eye(s) for the transom r/r there. I might just get rid of these and not repair that part of the transom if there is no easy solution. I mean it's not structural and will have no effect on anything other than the ability to tow from there. What do you think ? I have a (2) i/o configuration going to (1) i/o. Has anyone had experience 'reducing' , i.e cutting out the middle and reglassing, the present LARGE i/o engine cover for the reduced engine area while ? Also, increasing the floor and the rear apron areas now that there will be less engine room needed ? Thx |

Alan, you have to take it off.
Mine is still off and sitting on horse's next to the boat. Give me a ring when you get ready to cut the new wood. Remember, you need to use a Bronco to rest on top of the 2 laminating 3/4 marine grade plywood sheets.......inside joke. It worked though, gave me the perfect contour of the transom.

Re: Transom R/R procedure on a 23' Tsunami
I'm waist deep in a job on my boat, but it was more than a 2 Bud job. Its more like a 2 Keg Job. Cutting the pristine inner liner and entire rear deck out took several shots of Tequila and some guidance by Jose Quervo.
At least the transom and stringers are back in place in this photo. [ June 09, 2003, 10:02 PM: Message edited by: RingLeader ] |

Mark,
I gotta call you. I'll need to borrow your Bronco. . Actually, I want to know how you held the new transom wood firmly against the transom skin ? Alan |
