25 Carolina Classic
I know that I should probably post this on the hull truth; however I wanted to ask my friends here on CSC. Does anyone know anything about the 25 Carolina Classic? I have run across a really clean one that is reasonably priced.
Thanks, Steve

Re: 25 Carolina Classic
My buddy has one.He is on his third engine. There seems to be a water ingestion problem on the 7.4 liter gas engine.I don't know the details so do a little research.I heard of other people having the same problem with that set up.Go with the diesel if you can otherwise they are well built nice riding boats.

Re: 25 Carolina Classic
I fish on one regularly - 25 Sportfish with the volvo 235 hp KAM D42 turbo diesel and 290 duoprop. Gets about 3-3.5 mpg at 18 knt cruise and is a great riding and fishing boat. tops out at about 25 knots. It has a 25 deg. deadrise so it rolls in a swell if drifting or slow trolling, but even so I like riding up top in the tuna tower looking for fish...definitely go diesel with this - its a big heavy boat yet it trailers well. Nearly 100 sq feet of cockpit space. Very fishy boat with a nice cuddy and swing-away port-a-potty. Beautiful boat, too.

Re: 25 Carolina Classic
Thanks guys. The boat that I'm looking at has the carbed 454 in it. This is good for me because I already have a spare engine that came out of my Seavette. I understand that the reversion problems were on the boats that have the fuel injected engines. I know about the exhaust reversion from reading about people’s problems on offshoreonly.com. I don't see it to be as much of a problem if you don't let the engine idle for too long. I've got a good amount of valve overlap on the cam that is in my 502, as a result I keep a close eye on this and so far I haven't noticed a problem. Consequently I try not to let it idle less than 1,000 RPM for too long.

Steve , I find that hard to believe. Can`t wait to hear it! Is the Carolina jack shafted to the drive? The Albemarles have a nice low CG because of this. Seen the Carolinas at a couple of shows and they seem to be nicely done. I also saw a Blackfin 24 combi w/ a 600 hr Cummins 6bta straight ib go for 8k on THT. Really had me thinking. Needed a little tlc , but damn what a steal somebody got. Cheers, GFS PM me next time you guys are hittin the otherside. I`d love to buddy along. The Whaler console sounded a little sporting to say the least. |

Re: 25 Carolina Classic
since you brought up the cummins...i'd really like to try a turned up 4bt jack shafted to an outdrive on a 23'. i think i could do a largre leaning post/engine box kinda like the sea vee has. the cool thing is, the 4bt is capable if big power for relatively cheap and is more compact and lighter by alot. it will also burn sluge
the down side being they rattle BAD. anyway, i'm keeping my eye out for a hull |

Re: 25 Carolina Classic
People, It would pay to check and see if Marine power engines had the same problem .the valve overlap is true , so is reversion, but the thing no one speaks of is Time & distance. If I am correct Marine power Risers are longer , and introduce the water farther from the engine . and maybe stop the Problem. George.
