Default Poly Gas Tank???

I am going to replace both of my gas tanks in my 23 Sceptre and was wondering if anyone has replaced thier tanks with Poly and not aluminum. Pros-cons? If i go poly- how are they mounted? Any help is appreciated.

Poly is not the way to go long term. They typically mount with straps and then get foamed in. The ethanol (and fuel itself) can break them down over time. But they are cheeper, if you feel like doing a tank every few years it might be OK.

Alum tanks are more $$ but as long as you leave them full during storage time you wont have an issue with internal condensation and corrosion. Dont foam them in, wedge and screw them instead and leave a little air space, coal tar expoxy coat and they will last a life time.

We used poly in our bowrider 4 yrs ago ... Strapped and foamed.
Poly tank is doing good so far and no problems. I agree with the strapping, but next time would look for an alternative to foam. The foam has a tendency to stay wet causing mildew.

Fuel will not eat a poly tank. However the selection of sizes is limited and they aren't baffled. They also expand when warm, so foaming them in isn't recommended.
