Need help from Sceptre/Tsunami folks
I need to redo the seating in my 74 Tsunami. The seats I have in it now are more suited for smaller boats, like aluminum or glass bass boats.
I'd like to replace them with some decent salt water type seats without breaking the bank. I also may go back to pedestal mounts instead of the mounts that we made. Originally,I thought the mounts that we made would be better,as we could store stuff like tackle boxes under them, but I don't think it made all that much difference. I recently has some disc replacement surgery and looked into suspension mounts, but the good ones are way out of my price range. I also like the seating arrangment in Snookerd's boat with the box/bench seat with the cushions on the port side and a standard chair on pedestal at the helm. My boat is 6 hours from home and all shrink wrapped so I cant get any measurements, but maybe some here could supply some for me that have the same boats. So,here are a few things that would be welcomed. #1 whats a decent chair in the $250.00 range,or maybe a chair and pedestal package in the $300.00 or less range. I see plenty of them in the catalogs and websites but without sitting on them I cant tell if they are good or bad.We troll for 10 hours or more,so comfort is important #2 Can anyone supply me with the height from the deck floor to the bottom of the seat? #3 I know that Snookerd likes his arrangement with the bench on the port and standard seat at the helm, and was wondering if anyone else has a similar setup and if you like it? It looks great for storage as well as sitting. any random thoughts or ideas pros/cons,would be appreciated.I posted this picture showing the mounts we made,They are solid and do allow us to slide the cooler under them, but I question how it would look with some types of better seating like ladder backs on them. Thanks much guys. Oh yeah! almost forgot,I also included a picture of the "beautiful" winter we've had this year. You have to be nuts to enjoy this.

I would check local craigslist etc. I was able to locate a Pompanette Premier series helm chair with pedestal and footrest for $250 but I think that was a fluke. I had the port side fishbox and it worked great for storage and seating etc.
I have used "Springfield" seating as well in other boats and they are good quality for the price. You get what you pay for obviously I sold the Tsunami but I know the pedestal height on the Pompanette was at 30" and was a perfect height.

The; box-pedestal combination works very well for me. I have the Seacraft galley on one side with a passenger seat on top and a regular pedestal seat on the drivers side. I modifed the galley, removing the sink and adding stroage, drawers, etc. Very useful.
I really liked the way you did your seats, surprised its not a lot better than simple pedestals. |

I would consider one of those SSI, Frigid Rigid or Yeti type Coolers. They carry a hefty price tag but with corner stays they could provide you with a Double Duty arrangement. Also easy to remove, clean, dry storage etc. Padded Combing Bolsters and you'll be good to go (When it's not Snowing)
Look at this Gucci Setup !

Here is the configuration of mine – I think it is what Connor started with. Galley seat port side and pedestal helm seat (seat not on in this pic). The galley seat slides fore/aft on a track - it is all the way fwd in this shot. Seats are original – it looks like Potter just upholstered around a fiberglass shell – they need re-upholstering and repairs to the FG shell but are comfortable enough for me. This arrangement works pretty well; it does not feel cramped forward and it does not use up deck space behind the seats (Personal preference - I hate a cluttered or cramped deck) I really like Connors idea of modifying the galley seat to be more of a storage seat than a galley seat. One of the things I don’t like about my setup is that the galley seat does not have a swivel. After I finish the transom and decks I will probably add a seat swivel and convert it into storage but keep the fresh water tank in it. If I can figure out how to get a Yeti into it on a drawer, I would do that.

You may want to see how Clay is handling his seating. Check out the pics on the last page of his thread. Also see his post on 11-11-13 on page 3 of his thread.

Thanks guys, thanks for the pedestal height Fred, that's about where my bases are at.For some reason i was thinking the pedestals were shorter.
CDAVIS, My bases do work well and they are very strong, but I keep thinking they look goofy.most others, unlike me,think they look fine.I was thinking the bench on the port side would be a good place for storage as well as seating. Captain Chuck, I had been giving some thought about using a cooler on the port side which would also serve a dual purpose, for food, drinks, and storage. I doubt I have the finances to be as Gucci as that Bert. Something tells me that I may have to resort to an Igloo,Coleman,or other el cheapo cooler with a cushion on top.I love the Yeti's, Pelican's Engles, etc, but they are biiiig dollars, and at my age maybe even a cheapo coleman would outlive me.
