Extra Wires
I know some wires are not supposed to be cut, but damn! I have a 23' center console so I don't understand why I need a 100' transducer cable? There are several items that have a lot of extra length of wire that I would like to do away with. What have y'all come up with to address all the extra length of wiring on pre-manufactured items like transducers, electronics, engine cables, etc?

"100' transduce cable"... Too funny. I was cleaning up the wiring on my boat the other day and was thinking the same thing.

I know the feeling I probably have fifty extra pounds of wire on board maybe more with every wire being twenty feet to long then the radar wire wtf! I'm surprised these things float once you get all the wire onboard. I went to go get a simnet wire and the shortest one the make is 2m ahhhh! I only need 1'

Furuno and Airmar claim you may cut to shorten transducer cables but to do it away from the connectors using a junction box from Gem Electronics:
Can I cut my transducer cable?Probably worth a phone call...

BA,
I think I also read some where that airmar had purchased Gem a few years ago. Here is their website if the numbers are no longer in service. http://www.airmartechnology.com/

This is always a option if you don't want to cut them:
This is a junction box I wired this week at work. Wanted to keep some extra length on the cables just in case.

I am constantly in awe of guys who can do wiring well. Its a lot of time spent in uncomfortable positions but it sure looks nice when its done right. I find I always start out thinking I am going to dial it then quickly move into "Lets get it done" mode.

That box looks awesome. Before the rebuild my console look like that box, after it had a stick of dynamite thrown in it and the lid closed.
