So here is my 1970 seacraft 20, ex. "joyous"
I picked her up last week, I got her on my driveway and I am starting work on her as soon as I finish some outstanding things I have going on my house, The transom core has already been removed and the hus is pretty much clear of components ready and ready to start ripping into it, I love the original layout of and I want to keep as much of the original design as I can, but here is a rough idea of I will be doing to it, 1. Redo transom with 1.5" coosa board, raise 5 or 6 inches 2. Fill stringers with foam, Raise stringers by 2 inches maybe 2.5 depending on what I decide for deck core. I haven't decided on what material to use yet, feel free to tell me what you used to raise your stringers) 3. three sets of bulkheads into bilge, forward mid and aft with coosa 4.New Fuel and freshwater tank and under deck runs for wiring, fuel and OB 5. Deck, undecided at this point on what core material i will be using, 6. reinforce the hull sides with thin corecell m80 and maybe add whatever coosa is leftover as light framework, Laminating schedule will be posted as I go along, That's as far as I am looking ahead right now, I am in absolutely no rush to finish the boat, I want it to be done to the highest quality and materials available, but for now its all grinding and sanding! The boat had all the stern area cut out but unfortunately the lockers where not on the boat when i got it. I really like the stern layout on these old seacrafts with the recessed lockers on the quarters so I will try to recreate it, hopefully I will come across someone that is getting rid of them, I am also thinking about adding a 7 or 9 inch bracket so the engine is out of the boat when its all the way down and you can close the transom/add some sort of fold out seat to have the stern as a full seating area! but i have plenty of time to think this through! I am 100% open to feedback and anything that could improve my restoration quality ![]() I am used to large yacht finish and quality and this is what I will try and hopefully recreate here |

Hi, First timer here and no power ball cash for my rebuiod - ugh. I'm at the same juncture with my 20. I have analysis paralysis with the transom rebuild. Can't afford the Coosa and have 2 - 3/4" Doug Fir marine ply, but hesitant on moving forward due to weight and thickness. Transom space for core is 1 1/2", which leaves no room for Mat , 1708 etc. Are you finding the same dimension? Can't wait to see your progress

Ok, First welcome to CSC ! Second, it all depends on how old you are for the decision of wood verus coosa.... Currently rebuilding my 1975 Hewes flats boat with wood.. ![]() Reason I'am 63 years old, told my son who is 36 that it only has to last at least 15 years, cause will probably not be here to worry about it after that.. He can deal with it when it goes south.. Rebuilt my 1970 20 SF with all wood 28 years ago and still solid as a rock !!! Just make sure every screw hole is SEALED !! The glass has no voids.. It will out live you ! Use your 3/4 and Fasco it to a sheet of 5/8. Plenty of room for mat and woven roven.. ![]() Just Do-it !!

Is this what you're after?
http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...ad.php?t=28965 pics won't show up for me, so not sure if it's the stern compartments you're looking for, or whether the shorter model is a factor... Good luck with your project! |
