Bracket and boat performance
Those with bracketed Sceptre’s .....still balanced ride or changed the performance characteristic?
Seems bracket the way to go given the original poor drainage / scupper set up, and risk of wave over open transom capsizing . |

It is one way to go. Prior my transom was cut for a 30" motor to which I combined a 10" manual jack plate. This was a very good combination but I also have a raised deck so scuppers were not an issue.
The Tsunami layout does very well with the Hermco bracket as the Tsunami is more weight forward and balances well offsetting the bracket and 4 stroke outboard. Does it change the boat performance and handling... Yes it does but all in all I think the bracket has more pluses than minuses. For one the bracket allows for a full transom and provided all the space and length benefits that comes with the addition. It also allows you to run the motor higher giving better speed and from my experience fuel efficiency from less drag from the running gear. It does ride better in certain sea states and the boat from prop to bow is longer and can bridge the gap better in most cases. Cons- No gained running surface and a slightly higher planing speed depending on prop selection. Boat is heavier out of the water and you will need to make sure your trailer is long enough to move the winch stand up a foot or two.

I hate to hear Don is closing up shop. The Twin bracket in my opinion is the best selection for a modern 4 stroke upgrade utilizing a 30 inch motor. Mine sits high and dry and doesn’t even come close to getting dunked when pulled off a plane.
