Calling in a favor for prayers
Have not seen the news, and can’t turn it on now. A very, very close friends son is the Army and his base, in Afghanistan, is under an attack like not seen in years. Thanks.

Well Little Rick made it through the day. I guess 8 pm here is like 7 am over there. Apparently the bombings start at about daybreak, and they have been bad enough for him to call Home to his daughter, mother and then Skyped his dad last night as the bombings were evident. He usually touches base with his family 5-6 am our time so it was alarming to say the least.
Last year, after six years in, he was accepted to the Bluffton Fire District where I had served 21 years. He graduated, and was set to go to 24 hours on and 48 off, his shift assignment. Pretty close to a year ago today, when Trump released all that money to defense and his recruiter returned. Resigning bonus, immediate Rank adjustment to where he should have been over a year earlier and the GI Bill for his daughters college education. Here’s the kicker: FD less salary, 28 years until retirement and no benefits or, Army significantly higher salary, no living expenses, 14 years til retirement and benefits for life. If he’s 30, I met him 25 years ago. Without any military experience I don’t ask about what happens over there. He was a Chinook Head mechanic(?) who has to be on every flight. One day he told me he looked out of the bird and saw an RPG screaming toward them during night ops.. He said “It looked like a Screaming, Flaming Orange pumpkin coming at them at Warp Speed 5!” Said he had to change his drawers after that flight, but I’m guessing that was the worst of his first six years, and I don’t know how many tours.
