Flipping Hull
I have finished re-coring, glassing, and painting my cap on my 23 SF and will be flipping over the hull to work on the bottom. I'm looking for some advice on bracing the cap/gunnels because i want to avoid warpage/cracking. for those that flipped your hull over, did you have any issues with this while it was upside down and resting on the cap? I will be using a piece of equipment for flipping hulls so im more worried about damage from compressing the cap on a cradle than the actual flipping process. Thanks.

Following, as I would love not to have to be on my back for hours tackling that step. If you are local ish, I'd be willing to help. One video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY-ojUoQ73o. I'm not that crazy!

Depends how well the cap is attached/supported to the hull, If its tied into an aft bulkhead/transom knees well it shouldnt be a problem, need pics!

the equipment is called a posi-turner. One of my family members has one at their shop and is going to flip it for me. Here is what i've come up with to support the hull on the trailer. The cap may be fine but I've already faired and painted it so i dont want to create a bunch of re-work. Also, the cap at the transom is cambered like the classic I/O's so that would have its own challenges. I plan on supporting the hull by the sole and stringers and a block of EPS foam at the nose. I will also strap the nose and transom eyes to the trailer since i have to move the trailer around a bit where i work on the boat, incase it gets tippy. I may be over thinking it but i'd rather spend a day building some sawhorse/truss supports than crack the cap and spend more time fixing that. I'll get a video of the posi turner flipping my hull, im probably about a week out. |

If you can get your hands on some marine lift bags or rollers. You fill them with air and st the hull on them.
