Default Suzuki DF225 PTT Gremlin

Gents: My New To Me 2006 DF225 (450 hrs) suddenly developed a PTT problem. All system(s) were working until I lowered it (I believe for the first time) all the way down. Now I get nothing going up, complete silence. Going down works fine, both switches. No motor whine trying to go up from both switches. I have not checked the fluid level, but believe its good since it works as before going down. The one large fuse on the engine is good. Rechecked the harness connections - all good. Can you suggest other areas to check/troubleshoot? Thanks in advance for your help

Not a Zuke guy Casey, however don't those have relays/soleniods? One for up and one for down? Reverse them and if it does the opposite problem, that might be it! It's happened to me on an old OMC similar to GFS's.

Default PTT solenoid

On my 2012 ETEC the solenoid (for both up and down) failed under warranty, then once again. Think I applied 12v positive downstream of the solenoid which revealed it was the culprit. Heard a theory that although seemingly well potted where the wires exit out the top, failures were due to moisture. On the new solenoid I applied more liquid electrical tape around the wires and mounted it upside down with wires on the bottom. So far so good. Probably lasted longer than my first two.

Don & Terry: thanks for your input. Think my next purchase will be a shop manual. Found 2 relays. Switched them with same symptoms. Fuses appear good. Got to be something in the “up” circuit since the “down” side works fine. Can a solenoid go bad for half it’s function - good for down, bad for up? I’m wondering if a micro switch/ limiter got buggered up?

Casey,
As far as I know all manufactures use the same color code
Blue = Up, Green = Down
Blue sky up
Green grass down

Try to run a hot lead (jumper wire) to the up..... Blue

If the DC motor runs going down, it has to run going up with a jumper wire...

The solenoid /relay connection has to be the culprit..

Start at 3mins

Long story short the relays act as grounds. Blue=up when engaged
Green=down when engaged.

They don’t reverse as your post seemed to imply. They are grounds for each other and are energized by a feeder wire.
Polarity 1 way goes up. Polarity other goes down.

What nobones said is dead on if you understand the electricity behind it.

My dt200 has 2 relays. To separate these functions. The df225 looks like in the video above as a single relay with both functions. But if there is a short on one of those wires that would account for 1/2 functionality.

Free idea, check to see if you have voltage. Could be a simple broken wire or the relay is toast. Mine have been replaced they seem to be touchy on Zukes.

Good luck!

Also, on my OMC I had this exact problem, and it was a faulty tilt limit switch, but I am not sure if you have one on that motor. Bypassing the tilt limit switch restored full functionality. Good Luck!

Gents: all very good advice. I appreciate it all. Turns out it was a tripped tilt limiter switch. Easy and free fix. You guys are the best.
