Hello All, New guy here found this site after I acquired a 88, 20’ seacraft and started looking around on internet. There is tons of info on here and lots of really nice looking boats and refits. The boat I have needs a transom and the decks are soft. It does need quite a bit of work and im gonna try and make it my winter project if I can get some other stuff finished up. Lookin forward to following some of the other projects going on. Probably gonna be asking some questions here soon thanks for any pointers I can get.

Hey Go fast, I see some of these 20’s , guys are raising the decks. Does this apply to the newer 20’s. Mine has pretty soft decks and a soft transom, I seen another post where someone cut the skin and replaced the core without tearing whole deck out. Do the later models usually have stringers that are in pretty good shape?

Great boat! We have seen a few members pull decks, inspect stringers on 18s and 20’s on the late 80’s Tracker SC’s. Stringers have been solid on those boats. We have seen decks get raised as well. Strick can give you Info on his older 20 that he rebuilt. Looking forward to pictures.

Welcome! A lot of folks repowered with heavier 4 strokes dictating the raising of the deck or permanent plugs. Anything you do, keep weight distribution in mind. You won't regret it!

Suggest you examine my example on estimating cg shift with heavy engines or engine on brackets. Think your easiest way to find it is to look under stickees or search under estimating CG shift.

Welcome to the site Jack...I've always liked the lines on the newer 20's from the 80's as they are a little longer...being over here on the west coast I've only had the opportunity to climb aboard one and poke around for a bit...I think most 20's could benefit form a couple inches in deck height like gofast says...good luck with your project!

You only want to do this once. Pull the deck so you can see everything.
Stringers may or may not be fine. You don't know the history of the boat and who has
done what over the decades. It only takes one point of failure to compromise
structures and allow water ingress.

I would raise the stringers 2 inches and build as light as you can.
