Default 23' CC Gross Weight Question...

Got a question for anyone out there, Steve I bet you'll have the answer. You seem to be the spec guy on the site. I've got a 1982 23'cc with 110 gallons of fuel, twin 140 VRO's on a bracket, minimal gear, larger type console(T-top). Are there any guess as to what I'm weighing in at including a 2001 Loadmaster float on 7000lb capacity trailer? Just blew the engine on my F250 and need to explore the option of pulling it with a 5.0 V8 Mercury Mountaineer until funding is available for a new engine for the truck.

Squidrig,
I've got an '82 23' Sceptre that weighs 3,300 lbs dry hull weight. It's got a 144 gal. tank and a single 225 Evinrude. Including the 6,000 lb capacity trailer, we estimate the whole package to be around 5,800-5,900 lbs with a full load of fuel. Since you have the same year hull but in the CC model, you can take off about 300 lbs on hull weight from my boat, plus the differential between fuel tank size and motor weight.

Hi Squiddy-

How about loading everything up and taking it to the town landfill. Most of them let you weigh a rig for a small fee. When I was looking to replace a trailer under my old Privateer I brought it to them and for $5 they gave me a printout of what the whole thing weighed. Then I subtracted the estimated weight of the trailer and I had a pretty firm idea of what kind of weight I had sitting on my trailer.

Thanks ScottM & Hooper...with ScottM's figures I would say that my weight would be around 6,050lbs in which case I could pull it with this v8 explorer(would much rather my pickup though). Hooper I think Sandwich has a scale, I'll stop by.

Hey Squiddy

I'm sure your more than aware of this but I'll say it anyway. I've towed with a Explorer (a friends truck) and its a bit different from the larger vehicle. Took alot more to get it going and alot more to stop it. For short distances I would think you would be fine...What the heck I've seen much larger than the 23 getting towed behind that vehicle (the Explorer) than should have been. I know I "felt" the boat behind me more in the smaller truck. At least you have the V-8 in the other vehicle.

I know when I tow with my vehicle I dont even know the boats behind me.

Hope you get the 250 fixed.....I'm sure you miss it.

Hey Scott, thanks for the insight...I think it will be a little nerve racking. I'll only be going about 4 miles down the street, my real concern is getting up and off the ramp at borderline tides.
