Default question about engine painting (for TimD)

got an older engine in great shape, 400 hours, excellent condition, but its paint is blue and silver, wont match boat, so i know for the cowling ill use awlgrip, but what should i use to paint the lower unit? any special primer?

Ben - One of the best things about painting my boat with Awlgrip was that I fell in love with the 545 primer. I wiped down the lower unit with solvent (don't remember which one) and sanded with 120 grit and used the 545 primer. Then followed with the tempo spray paint. It worked great.

Ben - you should be able to spray the whole motor with the Awlgrip, when I sprayed my cockpit I did my old blue/silver Evinrude with the cockpit paint and it's held up well.

billybob, Thanks! i wasnt sure if awlgrip would hold up to all the resistance from the water that the lower unit will take, thanks!
