I stored my 1989 18 in the Fall for 3 months without running each month. I got out in Jan. and noticed a slight power hesitation from low to high speed. This problem has progressed to were the motor will not run at all. I have an estimate of $160 to trade my carbs for rebuilt ones and install myself. Any thoughts on options?

Hello Snookerd-
I can not help technically but for a comparison- On my old boat i had the crabs rebuilt and installed on a V4 Evinrude 140 for $385.00 give or take a few dollars. This was 2 years ago at a place I trust. $160.00 for rebuilt carbs sound pretty fair to me. Granted I am a fiberglass guy, not a mechanic. |

had a yam 225 that developed some of the same symptoms. the diaphram on the fuel pump developed a tear (leak). might want to try that first. if you can squeez the bulb while running and it smooths out that might be your problem. fixed mine. later, Lucky Dog.

Thanks for the comments on price Trayder and diaphram/fuel pump past problems Lucky Dog. I have done some work on a few outboards in the past, but nothing major. Dumb question-Where is the fuel pump?

I just changed plugs for the 2nd time in 8 mos. and no more problems. I never thought the plugs would foul so quickly! I hear that it is common for this motor. The sensor needs to be removed and cleaned I believe. Lucky Dog - I changed the fuel pump in about 10 minutes, the old one was still good though.
