Need plugs for scupper drain holes & fish box
Sirs:
I have a 1985 19ft. Seacraft that has gone through extensive overhaul and upfitting. However, the new scuppers in the back still allow a good bit of water to still get into the boat which unfortunately drains into the fish box behind the leaning post. Both the water that comes in and the water that continually fills the fish box are a big annoyance. I am usually left to bailing out the fish box by hand with a bucket. I have searched for some easy to remove plugs that are large enough to plug the scupper holes from the inside and also plug the fish box from the inside. I believe the idea is that I could then remove the plug from the fish box at plain and the water would empty out. I need three plugs – can provide the dimensions. Surely I am not the only person that has had this problem. I would like to post a picture of the boat on your site too if interested. Has a 2-year old custom t-top with leaning post. New electronics. Boat just repainted dark green. Recently finished teak accents, etc. Maybe slightly underpowered with a 2000 Johnson 130HP. Please advise as to who/where I might find some of these plugs. I have a reputable boat repair guy who ordered three sets of plugs with all being to small. Thank you, Patrick Truluck 520-906-2023. |

Re: Need plugs for scupper drain holes & fish box
Here's the problem I have with plugs, One day you will forget to take them out, it will of course rain and your boat sinks. What if you are running, or drifting with the plugs in and take a big wave, you now have to man the wheel to make head speed to drain better and run back and remove the plugs. I installed the ball scuppers I got from West Marine and they work great. I used wood plugs for the first 2 weeks the boat was in the water and didn't really like the idea.

Re: Need plugs for scupper drain holes & fish box
Thanks for the reply. Point well taken and one I have thought about.
I just hate the way those ball scuppers look. The look very cumbersome, though I am sure more effective, and I also thought about the possibility of some how cracking them or breaking them. Lastly, am I correct in my assumption that by removing the plug inside my fish box (behind the leaning post) that at plane all the water would run out? Thanks again- |

Re: Need plugs for scupper drain holes & fish box
Yes, the water will drain out when at speed.
This may be an idea for you as well, On my father's Blackfin, he uses frozen Orange Juice bottles for ice and has a hose that runs from the cooler, right to the scupper and all the un-wanted blood/water etc... runs cleanly out to the scupper without messing the deck. When using the frozen bottle method, your fish doesn't sit in bloody water and you can hit the fish with a washdown hose ocassionally to keep the box clean of blood making it easier at the end of the day. If you have the freezer space for the bottles it's a-lot easier than buying ice each trip. |
