Default Best Paint?

allright,

i have so far decided to gelcoat my hull and was talking to someone abouit it at work. another coulegue told me to check out the 1 part epoxy paint as he used it on his boat with good sucess. he told me to look it up on the net. so far i found this

http://topsecretcoatings.bnetsoftwar...m5=2&Param11=7

looks like it has both waterproofing capabilities of the epoxy and shine of the linear polyurethane. a better allgrip?

Hey Edloh, thinking about doing the same thing here shortly and probably going to do my cap and deck . thinking of rolling and tipping with awlgrip. Keep us posted what you decide.what color paint??? Also I happen to work on carriers and submarines and believe me , I have never seen their "Logo" on any of the paint suystems Ive come across. In factmost of those coatings are for steel plate, not plastic!!!!

We painted the topside of our boat with a single stage paint and it turned out great. Check out the pics I posted. If you are interested I can get the brand for you. It came from a local auto paint store and was sprayed on. We put non skid on first and then painted over everything.

I've done a boat or two over the years and do yourself a favor and use a good 2 part epoxy like AwlGrip,Emron, etc. All paint looks good when first applied but you want it to look just as good 5 years down the road.2 part paint does cost alot more upfront but worth every cent. And AwlGrip will brush and tip very nicely.

I would check out a product called Duratec - it allows you to use gelcoat - still the best thing to cover your boat with.

Or, if you want a paint, go with Imron - it is strong and more importantly, if you scratch, dent etc - you can paint over the area and it can be blended - a repair w/ Awlgrip, although durable stuff, cannot be blended in. Both paints are not meant for constant underwater.

My opinion is gelcoat - you can sand it, fair it, blend it -it is worth any extra work.

my plan is still to go with gelcoat. i found valspar gellcoat with their Forguard (their version of the duratec). I like their forgurad as you only mix 25% of the versus 50% on duratec. The less you mix the more you retain the property of the gelcoat. Similar to Duratec, it will have some yellowing effect. Not too big a problem as i would be using yellow on the outside and offwhite on the inside.
