winshield/window weatherstrip how to
I just received 100' of weatherstrip from American marine to be used in my Tsunami.I only took a quick look at the windows on my way out tonite, and i'm wondering how hard it is to replace the old stuff.
From what i can see,the frames that actually hold the glass, are one solid piece. How do i get the old rock hard weathersrip out, without breaking the glass, and how do i install the new stuff,if i can't slide the glass out? Do i try to push it in somehow?and if so,how does it get around the back side of the glass. As i say,i haven't really looked at it in depth,so maybe i should have checked it out before asking this question, but figured some of you guys could give me some tips. If anyone can offer some advice, tips or tactics on how to install this stuff i would appreciate it. Thanks guys, J.R.

Re: winshield/window weatherstrip how to
Wow what a shock this what i am doing tomorrow on my 73 Tsunami. The windows just came in today bronze tempered. I took all the old ones out myself and it was pretty easy. What you want to do is make sure the molding is warm, take a heat gun and get the molding really gummy. Take a needle nose pliers and pull it out slowly. The top of the molding will be cracked and sun dried but the bottom part of the molding will be in good shape. Spray down the new molding once in while with silicone spray so it doesn't get sun dried. Good luck

Re: winshield/window weatherstrip how to
I just removed my windshield as well. The heat gun method works well for removal of the gasket. I also purchased a automotive windshield removal tool which helps cut the two sided tape away from the glass. A long carpet cutting blade was helpful as well.
NOW installation of the new window and alignment of the glass with the gasket may be a bigger challenge. I am hoping to try and install the new windows within a few weeks. Any tips would be helpful and I will post my tips as well. |
