West System and Fuel

Can the West System withstand fuel ? Or is there a better epoxy / (2) part epoxy for a gas application on an aluminum tank ?

What are you asking? Is the tank leaking and you are trying to plug it up or what.

There is a tank builder in RI that built my tank and they said they coat everything with it, and they have been using it for years.

I have a small aluminum fuel tank that is leaking at a seam. I removed all the fuel, and used West System yesterday on it ( West and microballoons ). It's cured, I'll add fuel today and let you know how it goes.

So far so good.

I sanded the area w/ a 120 grit grinder. Cleaned w/ acetone. Brushed on West System then added West System w/ micro balloons to consistency of mayonaise - put that on top w/ a nice thick bead. Let set overnight. Grinded smooth to a 1/4" thickness.

Fuel proof so far.

Throwing in my two cents. I just got my tank repaired at a fuel tank fabrication shop. They advised me to paint it with cold tar epoxy. I found it available at a local paint store. It was $60 a gallon. I haven't put it on yet. Any ideas on where to get the rubber strips that were under the tank?
