S.C. area fishing

I'm trying to plan my first trip to the carolina coast for a little inshore/nearshore fishing. i'm looking for a campground with water access close as i have a slide in for the truck. i've looked into the james island park near charleston but i'm not able to determine if there is a ramp or even if i'd be close to some descent fishing. i'm not set on the charleston area specifically, i just like that it only about four hrs from western north carolina. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Ask away!! JI park is about 10 minutes from Wappoo Cut ramp, nice ramp close to in/off shore and harbor. I usually use it for the SC. Folly Beach ramp is about 7-8 miles and also nice. Both fill quickly on weekends and have strong currents. Buck Hall in Awendaw is nice, on the waterway, and on the federal campground list. This is my favorite get away go-to spot but Bulls Bay is very shallow, you really need to know where you're going. Five Fathom creek in McClellanville is not far and open to ocean with Capers Reef close by. Edisto Is. has a campground, ocean, ramp etc. I don't fish that area. Several around Myrtle Beach.

Thanks for the insight. i just looked at the Buck Hall spot, looks good and mid week availability is good too. when you say very shallow, should i look elsewhere or just be extra carefull? i'm in an 18'SC. also, are the docks there deep enough that i don't have to pull the boat out at night?

The campground and boat launch are seperate, just happen to next door. We usually bicycle to and from and park truck/trailer at campsite. I wouldn't leave my boat in overnight and to park truck/trailer at landing is $5/day. Sept 12-Nov 12, shrimp baiting season, is CROWDED! You should be OK in an 18' but inside the bay is very, very shallow. The waterway, most creeks, and five-fathom creek to ocean are deep enough.

just got in from two days at Buck Hall. very nice facility, thanks for the advice. ran south to price inlet on wednesday but could only scare up some shark and ray. went north on thurs. but not sure what inlet(gps not working). caught some shark, trout, and had a nice cobia break off on one of the wooden structures just west of the inlet.

tried bull's bay but with no markers and no electronics, it proved kinda tricky. it's a little deceiving whatching the flats boats rolling by and knowing they're only in a couple feet of water!

had a great time and will be back, thanks again

charleston fishing is great this time of year, its also mobbed w/ tourists. Edisto Island has a campground and nearby boat access; its 45 minutes south of charleston. if you want a heads up on the fishing in charleston, www.charlestonfishing.com will tell you anything you need to know. for bait tackle fish stories etc go to Haddrells Point Tackle(10 minutes from JI county park).

There's a nice campground at Hunting Island, east of Beaufort, couple ramps nearby. Butch Is ramp is nasty and break-ins can be a problem. Very nice ramp at Fripp Inlet, decent fishing around the whole area, but it's all tide dependent. It can be frustrating for first timers. It's crowded, too, but nothing like Charleston. Big tides coming this week on the new moon will probably mess up the water. That site- charlestonfishing.com- is a very good info source.
