Was Potter the best?
I had a "Potter" 19 ft Master Angler that I bought new in 1976. When going through waves, it regularly leaked from the topsides. The dealer tried to seal it but was unsuccessful. I later bought a new 1985 23 ft Superfisherman built in Princeton, FL. It is still sound in all respects today and is solid as a rock. It has my vote over the Potter.

Re: Was Potter the best?
Was Potter the best...No.
Moesly was the best he created it, Potter refined it and after the Potter years the quality decline began. 1985 is still considered a good year...but it will never be as good as a "Potter" or "Moesly.

Re: Was Potter the best?
I believe the Moesly boats are the better built, and the better design. Potter splashed the original 21 and added a little length & some other features, one gave it a drier ride, but had a negative impact on the smooth ride he added a spray rail/chine, a reverse if you will which negated the full effects of the steps. Second, he reduced the size or depth of the steps which also took away some of the smmooth ride of the 21.
The bow area was cut down also, the 21 had almost 5 feet of freeboard from nose to water line which allows it to take on bigger seas without taking water over the bow. I am not sure about the entry.. It doesnt look to be as agressive of a V as the 21, I could be wrong on that one. Dont get me wron the 23 and others are fabulous boats, however the 21 is a much smoother riding boat. Here are some pictures of the differences in the steps on the 21 & the 23. The last picture illustrates the 5' freeboard at the nose.
