FYI.... Everglades Boat Plant
Just passing along the big news in Edgewater, FL.
this evening. The following was from the local newspaper internet site. 8 miles from the homestead we heard the fire trucks. See ya, Ken Smoke draws firefighters to boat manufacturer By LYDA LONGA STAFF WRITER Heavy smoke billowing from a building at an Edgewater boat-manufacturing plant sent firefighters from several agencies scrambling tonight as they tried to locate the source of the blaze, Fire Department spokeswoman Jill Danigel said. The fire erupted just before 6 p.m. at Everglades Boats, 544 Air Park Road. Although firefighters did not see flames when they arrived, Danigel said one building - at least 20,000 square feet in size - was filled with smoke. It took firefighters from Edgewater, Volusia County, South Daytona, Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach at least an hour to locate the source of the smoke. The cause was not immediately available, Danigel said. Danigel said the State Fire Marshal's Office would be on scene to investigate; she also said the county's hazardous materials unit was called to the business because of all the chemicals that are stored on site. "We still have no damage estimates," Danigel said. "But no firefighters or civilians were injured." The company, owned by R.J. Dougherty, was closed at the time of the fire, Danigel said.
