Finally got my 37 year old windsheild off my center console and was wondering if anyone has made one these on their own. I found the right size piece of plexi and was thinking a heat gun would heat it up enough to bend? Also any tricks to cutting it? The piece is 1/4 " Thanks any info would be great!

Last time I cut plexi I put plywood blade backwards on the tablesaw. I think I also ran some masking tape on the cut line. for curves go with jigsaw w/a fine tooth blade and take your time. Tape is also good here, although the material usually comes with a plastic film on both sides
Make sure you ventilate well. Can't speak to the bending but heat should do the trick.

Hi jwclbi:
I made my own but used Lexan not Plexiglass. You can use a thinner sheet for Lexan and it will not crack and break. I used a heat gun and supported both sides with wood clamped together and then exposed approx 1” or 2” space in the middle and bent. It came out good and I have bent some other things since then. Here is a thread on it. http://www.classicseacraft.com/forum...=&fpart=1&vc=1 ![]() FellowShip …………………………. Just for the Grins ![]() Official Antique Classic SeaCraft Owner |

Plexiglas is less likely to bubble than lexan. I use a device called a strip heater specifically made to bend plastics.

Call American Plastics in Camarillo,Ca.If you can draw it I believe he'll make it for you for a smok'n deal.Lexan will Chex faster in the sun and does eventually get brittle.Overall Plexi would be a better choice and you can have the edge/holes flamed so they'll be stronger.Just a thought from a Journeyman glazier/boat glass fabricater of 23 years.
