Trailer Bunk Repair
So i got the trailer out from under the boat with the boat up on stands. have to repair the bunks because the one side is rotten. what i found is this. First off the bunks sit on the frame of the trailer. If your standing at the rear of the trailer facing toward the tongue the bunks spread. meaning at the rear they are 59 inchs from outside of bunk to outside. towards the tongue they spread to 61 inchs. They also slant 3 inchs up from back to front with a wedge. Why would this be done? Do the chins get wider as they go forward? does not seem right to me. i have included some pictures. maybe that is the way it is supposed to go. The spread to the first step down is 58 inchs so the bunks actually sit on the second step down
any help would be greatly appriciated

Re: Trailer Bunk Repair
My guess regarding the taper would be that they kept hitting the front cross bar with the bow so they raised the front end. Or maybe it was a drainage issue on their driveway... or even to facilitate splashing the boat at the ramp. I think I'd try to bring the bunks closer together and put some keel rollers just above and aft each cross beam.
Who knows what the previous owner was thinking? Its possible that he was a genius and that's why the rest of us are stumped. The out of parallel issue could have been bad measurement, slippage over time or who knows?

This i highly doubt. The original owner maybe. he did very good work on the full transom conversion. The owner before me filled in the drainage holes for the live well with putty and silicone. lived up in the boonies in north north florida. Im from miami and even i wasnt confortable going out where this guy was......... "I hear banjos" and thoughts about some of those scenes from Deliverance..

Re: Trailer Bunk Repair
Da da daa daa da daa da dong!!
He must have been close to the Georgia border! I know of no one in Florida that can play a banjo.. Unless you were close to Spidercrab's uncle in Alabama! I think they are the Swamp People on the Discovery channel. Looks like a "Tragic Tilt" to me!! (Magic Trail) I have the same set-up on the red 23 Sceptre.. He obviously added the 4 X 4's or 2 X 4's on top and had a cheesie table saw when he cut them. (Hard to tell with the carpet on them..) Go to a specialty wood shop if you can find one in Miami and get yourself some Cypress 4 X 10's and cut on a good table saw. See ya, Ken
