Scabbing a transom to raise to 25"

Anyone done it. My transom has been replaced previously and is rock solid. Anyone scabbing in a dutchman to raise it and how much bracing into the coring did you go. I think my old johnson has had it and I have a line on a yamaha ox66, but I need to have a 25" transom. Rather not have a jack plate. I have a 1979 18 and the transom notch is very low freeboard and I would feel better having the more freeboard. All comments are welcome.

I did this once to a 22 Mako back in '84. It previously had a twin 85 hp 20" Evinrudes, and we raised the transom 5 1/2" in the center and 14" on either side of the new single 175 hp 25" Mercury. We built up the inside of the transom to 3" thick across a 18" wide area in the center, also, and added fiberglass encapsulated knees on the outside edges of the built up area. Overkill, certainly. I say "I did this", when in fact some of the guys who worked for me did the work.
