Fairing
I'm using polyester resin to glass the console I modified. I bought some poly fair from Mertons and was wondering how you guys fair. Heavy first coat, sand then as many thin coats as needed to get it right. Or many thin coats sanded in between each coat. Thanks for the help.

Got it...much like traders fairing issue a while ago, it needs a thick coat to cure properly.

I've had great results with Polyfair,no matter how thick or thin when applied.I used it to fair out extensive damage to the gunnels that the previous owner did,and used it on the rear cap that I cut off when I did the transom.
Never had any curing problems with the Polyfair,no matter the thickness. Mixed it up on a piece of flexible cutting board material, and applied it where needed, thick or thin.I had better results applying it in thin coats, rather than a thick coat that had to be sanded down. It doesn't like to be under catalyzed,so it's better to work with small batches, and apply it quickly. The flexible cutting board mats from the dollar store work nice, any remaining cured waste on it comes right off when you flex the mat.Re use it over and over.

Mertons fiberglass in MA someplace. I think it can be used in colder temps but I'd check with Mertons though.

Mertons has it,I'm in there just about every night. He is in Springfield,(Western Mass). He ships worldwide and very quick, normally the same day if you order it in the am.
Not sure What you mean by cold temps, but It's a polyester based putty so cold temps will affect the cure. You can speed it up a little by increasing the catalyst, but it's best to keep the area at a comfortable temp. You could apply it and keep some heat on the area by tarping in the area around it enough to capture some heat from a portable heat source.
