Old SeaCraft pics - 20+ years.

Thought I would start a thread that shows older photographs (Vintage) that are 20 years or older of SeaCrafts back in the day. They will show some older, outdated electronics and funny fashion and haircuts of the day.

So here goes...

The first photo is from 1993 (20 years ago) and show our 23' Sceptre moored in Key West, Fla during "Lobster" season. It's a picture of my dad (who passed away in 1995) and my sisters after a day out in the boat. Notice the LORAN antenna, that has long since been removed.


And the second picture is of us under way at John Pennecamp State Park in Key Largo, Fla.

Third pic is in Clearwater, Fla (Nov 1992), with nice new shinny tower and new clear curtains. The tower is now oxidized and the curtains are in the garage loft very yellow... The original captain's chair and front and back facing seats are shown. They both got trashed in the 90's and have been replaced with two captains chairs on 30" pedistals.

Ok, you asked for it - this is too good to resist! Here's a few oldies from some Bahamas trips I made with my Seafari and the Moesly 21, "Unohu" in the late 70's. I once figured out that I had followed the Unohu for about 2000 miles over the course of a half dozen Bahama trips! All trips were made with a 1975 Evinrude that was about 100 hp at the prop, proving you don't need 200 hp to have a lot of fun with a 20' SeaCraft! This was waay before GPS so all navigation was by compass/dead reckoning. Most of the shots were taken with a Canon AE-1 35mm, many with a polarizing filter, which cuts glare and brings out the clouds.

Pics 1 & 2 are @ Pelican Cay, near Green Turtle Cay, Abaco.
Pic 3 is Pelican Cay as seen from the beach in front of our cottage on Green Turtle, and my daughter who was about 6 at the time (She's now 42!)
Pic 4 is the Unohu anchored in about 10' of water off Guana Cay; note shadow on bottom!
Pic 5 is the beach we were anchored at, NE of Great Guana Cay, Abaco.
Pic 6 is another beach on the west side of No Name Cay, south of Green Turtle.
Pic 7 is another shot of the Unohu at the dock, the year we stayed on Guana Cay.
Pic 8 is a shot at the marina at West End, Grand Bahama of my boat, the Unohu, and Verbotin, a 23' Seabird that ran with us one year. Note the old Apelco flasher/recorder mounted below the helm on my boat!
Pics 9 and 10 are a couple more shots of the Unohu.

Owner Bob, climbing over the transom in Pic 9, was a gung ho diver, used to dive 2 tanks Saturday and Sunday nearly every weekend of the year. He literally wore out 4 engines in that boat and was on engine No. 5 when he sold it after owning it for 27 years! He retired several years before I did and I lost touch with him for a few years. Would have bought that boat in a heartbeat had I known he was trying to sell it! It's ride was incredible! He once made the 60 nm trip to West End in 5 hrs with winds east at 20-25, in seas of 10-12' with small craft warnings flying, SITTING DOWN (which is the ONLY way you could ride in the stock Moesly 21)! The best part was when he refueled at West End, he said it only took 19 gallons! Denny

The first picture was the day I found my 23' at a marine engine dealer in 1984. The hull had never seen a trailer or had bottom paint as it had been kept on davits. I could not pass it up. I paid $7,000 for the hull & 1979 200HP Johnson the next day.

The 2nd next picture was the teak rocket launcher I constructed over the original splashwell. It also helped with the engine noise from that old Johnson.

The 3rd picture was taken the day I was back from getting my T-Top installed by Birdsall in 1985. First, I had to remove the windshield and grab rail and build the custom radio box out of black walnut wood.

The last picture is of my first Car circa 1952. Notice how excited I was with the low rail, wood trim helm seat & custom wheel & hub caps! That was my introduction to the "Gucci" touch as I think it might have been Green in color. I had the same excitement when I scored my first SeaCraft. Anyone recognize the make & model ?

Ahhhh, memories:

Pic 1, my introduction to Seacrafts, a buddies 20cc, about 1975. I liked the ride but was really impressed with its ability to find fish.

Pic 2. my first Seafari, 1981, one hell of a dive boat.

Pic 3. It wasn't all diving, pic is boat, wife and stove, winter camping. I still use the stove on Bahama trips.

Pic 4, one of my favorites, A friends kid, "driving" the seafari.
