Radar post
I'm installing a Lowrance radar and need to install a radar post on my 74 Sceptre. Has anybody used Seaview products before. I priced it out at around $500.00 for the base, 8ft of 3 inch tubing, the top plate and bulk head clamp all powder coated white. I can buy this one or go to a local guy have him build one and powder coat it for around a $800.00.
I was going to mount it on the port side in front of the seat in the corner with one deck plate and then mount a bracket to the bulk head. If somebody has any other ideas as to where to mount the radar I'm open for suggestions. Thank Ken |

Seaview mounts are made by PYI which is in the Seattle area (Lynnwood I think). I used to live in Bellingham WA, and managed a big boatyard out there. We used their stuff all the time. For radars, sat domes, etc. etc.
Gimbal mounts for sailboats, trawler mounts, pedestals, posts, you name it. Very high quality. Never had an issue. I've also been to their facility a number of times (but it has been awhile) and was on a first name basis with the guys who worked there. I can vouch for the quality of their work and their support. Good finish too. As long as you don't ding it during install, it'll last a long time.

For a little more you could get a radar arch and have a place to mount radar, antennaes, spreader lights and a bunch of rod holders. imho

I had a custom arch made by Atlantic Towers in NJ. It cost about 1600.00 delivered, came with 6 rocket launchers(I added more as you can see) and big mounting plates in several places. I think it was one of the best decisions I made. I have the Radar dome, the Gps & Vhf antennas mounted on it as well as several extra rod holders, and planer board reels on it as well. Atlantic has the dimensions and specs for the Potter built hulls on file. They also deliver to your area, along the I-95 and I-91 corridors.

Wow. Spam city. I have their radar mount on my CC T top and it's top notch but, I would recommend the arch for your boat. I think you would get a better value with that.

even with a radar arch - the antenna mount, for the radar antenna is still needed.
the antenna mount/wedge plate corrects the angle of the beam -keeping it parallel with the water's surface...

I made a plug for my mount out of 4" PVC and MDF. I have it on a Lowrance 3G radar for my radar arch. The same thing on 4" PVC or 4" PVC with glass would work, too. You are welcome to my plug if you want it.
