Default Yamaha 130HP 1994

Just bought a SeaCraft 20 1970 center console. Having issues with the Yamaha 130, did a compression test and all cylinders checked out fine, motor has been sitting for 1 1/2 years, I just took it out for a shakedown and could only get 2300 RPM out of it before it began to stall. Fuel consumption was also very high. Can anyone tell me if there is a simple carburetor adjustment for fuel air mix or is a rebuild in order. I have no experience with outboards. Send help if you can.

You may have a float bowl sticking. Probably a good time to rebuild the carbs anyways and Sync them. Id get a rebuild kit and do it yourself. Its pretty easy and there is a ton of information on line (youtube, Hulltruth, etc.) to walk you through it.

Any fuel spilling out of overflow tube?

Ditto!! The odds are very good the high speed jets are blocked. After 1 1/2 years there is no chance Seafoam or the like will clean them, not hard to clean and rebuild. When done these are really, really dependable engines. Don't let fuel sit in the carbs for long periods of time....ask me how I know.

Google yamaha outboard forum. There's a ton of info on there. Just register and you can post a question if you can't find it already mentioned in the forums.

What they said, and great motor, best fuel economy for us was a 17p yamaha semi cleaver.

Thanks for the help guys, had the carburetor cleaned and the old fuel removed, and now it ruins just fine. Glad to know that this motor is highly regarded and dependable. High fuel consumption was because I could never get the boat up on a plane. Happy now.
