Default Hello, new member on board

Hey guys, my name is Gregg and Chuck,,aka Strick,, sent me this way. Chuck is our horse vet and we live in the same community. I don't have a Seacraft but I do own a 24' Skipjack open. It was a 600.00 carcass when I bought it with a shot outdrive , no motor or trailer, a pallet of misc. parts, some of it was usable some not. I took a couple days going through this site getting a feel of what you guys are doing with your sleds, very nice work gentleman. I wish I had jump aboard awhile ago during the beginning of my project. I had no real knowledge or experience of fiberglassing and basically learned as I went. I turned the Skipjack from a open to a Pilot House. I built the PH out of Aluminum and painted the whole boat with Awlgrip. I had to make everything for the boat, some fiberglass, some Aluminum, even have some Starboard in places. I'm finishing up the last small items on the Skippy. I've taken it for a quick shakedown run last week and will be putting a few more hours on it this up coming weekend here on the Delta. If all go's well and and I finish these last few things I'll splash it next week in the SF bay and do some Halibut fishing. My project was like most others, it took longer planned, cost more than the budget allowed and even though it's just barely completed, I'm already starting to think about my next project. But I don't mention it around my wife just yet, she needs a little more time recovering from this one

I know you guy's are SC fans, but I think we all love boat porn no matter the boat. Here's a before shot taken three years ago when I brought her home and here's the after shot taken last week. Yea I know three years but there's a lot that happened during that period that included moving, job, and a surgery. I can't wait to get her on the Tuna grounds this summer,,,gregg

Very nice. Welcome aboard. Get a 18' SeaCraft CC as a dingy and you are good to go.

Like the Pilot house, How dose it run under way. Dose it make make it top heavy or dose it roll any? Don't know if u ran it prior to the mods but curious how it changed the ride characteristics.

Skipjacks are referred by some as tippy skippys, they where built in Socal and are a west coast Icon down there. Jack Cole was a boat builder and avid fisherman and designed them to get you 60 miles out and run back home uphill. So the dead rise is a trade off. He made them in the Open and Flybridge design. My Aluminum PH is a lot lighter then the FB fiberglass model. I fished in a friends 24' open many times, it would mow right over the slop but it was wet too, hence the PH. I agree with a second skiff. I have couple other boats, and one is a 15' Boston Whaler. Love that little skiff but we want something a little bigger and I want it in a CC. It's nice to have for those days when you don't need the big boat,,,gregg

I just wanted to share with you guys how the Maiden fishing trip went out on San Fransico Bay. I couldn't be happier with the ride, handling and comfort with the boat. Today was the first fishing trip out to see what she'll do sporting a new Pilot House. A couple of buddies joined me for a day dragging Popsicles out on Bezerkly Flats. Splashed at 4:30am and waited for greylite before shoving off. Hit some cleaner water and dropped in. About 30 minutes into the troll we find one. I mark a waypoint and stay in the zone. Picked up 5 in that area. The bite died off and we looked around the neighborhood for awhile and picked up 2 more in the box. Had one dropped and a couple drive bys. called it a day by 11:30 with 7 beautiful cookie cutter Halis and a Striper. My buddy James wrapped his line in the kicker prop twice, I don't know where his head was at today?? I got it unwrapped kneeing on the swimstep. Even with the crappy cold weather and me soaked to my a$$, sitting in that Pilot House wasn't too bad at all. Boat washed and fish cleaned we are on the road home by 12:30 to beat the traffic back to east Co Co county. I still have some things to finish up, but I can fish the boat while I work on those items. Cheers to the trips to come,,,gregg

Hey Gregg. I live in Martinez. I am heading out of Berkeley on Wednesday for some Halibut fishing on Wednesday. Glad to see you getting out in your great looking boat. Hope to see you out there! Are you going to try for Tuna in the boat?

Nice job on the Skippy Brokea$$. Great looking ph. & buttery looking halis. Welcome aboard, and tell the horse trader, err, Doc to check in from time to time.

Nice, solid halibut there. I saw a guy with a 43lb down here yesterday when trying out the boat and said he lost another biggie and was going out for more. Going to go and try to get one in the next few days if I can get out! Loving the pilot house. Some big bluefin in the last few weeks down here and looks like they are headed North!!! I'm also jealous of the pink meat you guys get up there, lol!
