Transom rebuild cost?
I drilled into my transom, which I thought was been pretty solid and found wet wood down near the bottom. I am going to be doing a repower with a yammer in the near future and want the boat to be as solid as possible to accommodate all the extra torque. To those that had it done, how much did it cost you to get the transom recored?

A lot less expensive if you do it yourself...

I had mine done professionally including raising it up to 30" for a outboard configuration. All said and done it was in 4500-5000 range. I requested Coosa board so that made everything a bit pricier. Good Luck!

Coosa (2 pcs 3/4") 600
Epoxy (6 Gallons) 300 Fiberglass 100 Filler/Fairing 100 Primer/Paint 150 Tools/Consumables 300 Total Materials $1,550 Your time to do the work is the most valuable part if you choose to do it yourself. I estimate it would take me (weekend warrior) around 4-5 days to complete. My experience tells me that my 4 day estimates usually turn into 8-10 day projects. |

New Jersey prices:
20 foot Seafari transom, complete redone, and raised from 20 inches to 25 inches: $3000 at $75.00/hour labor rates, including 2 sheets of marine ply (I did not spring for Coosa). |

I think this is fairly accurate. You could save a little using marine ply, reusing the exterior skin (if it's in good shape) and either using iso polyester or vinylester resin. Depending on what paint system you use and how many colors paint alone could easily go over $500. I think you would have a hardtime using gelcoat/duratec clear to keep the price under $150. Sandpaper alone will run you $100

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to have it professionally done. I don't have the time nowadays.
