250 SHO yamaha on a 23 SF
I am on the verge of repowering my 23 SF I have a deal on a few 250 yamahas, new 4.2 only...love my current 250 ox66, but its been giving me problems.checking weights on yamaha vs suzuki. looks like the yamis sho is 505 lbs and throws 271 hp at the prop.my boat is a 30" transom, so ....modifications to the lower are needed to make it work for me, thats OK.not a huge deal.. I am not concerned about fuel consumption at what RPMs....what does a 250 zuke weigh and HP at the prop?lets hear what it is, hope some one knows ,VS a 4.2 yams,250,standard or a SHO....

Looking at the Yamaha web site, I assume the VF250XA is the 25" shaft and it's 555# so add 20# or so for an extension to 30". Note this is dry weight. Was wondering where you saw the 271 HP number? Yamaha has always been on the low side of the 10% "cushion" for HP ratings. The early 3.3 225s were on a good day 208 HP.

For the same or less money you can get a 300ap in a 30" shaft. You certainly pay for grey but they are good motors.

Fas,
The Yamaha Sho motor is an awesome piece of equiment... However, data states that the Yamaha F250 puts out the same ponies as the SHO around 270 while the 300 is a weak 300 at around 280. If it were me.. there is a huge price difference between a F250 and the 250 SHO. If memory serves me right about 3 or 4 k... My Yamaha dealer here local loves to Pimp and Sell the SHO but his head Mechanic Laughes his ass off because less tha 1mph diff between the SHO and F250 and the F300 Is like 1.3 MPH faster than the F250. Hope that helps... Or just Spend the DOUGH and grab a 225 Verado and a huge discount... then Call Simon Motorsports send in your PCM... which they flash and you have an Instant Verado 325 HP. Cost $895 and takes 5 days. I know it works.. I sold the Shitty 2011 300 ZUKE off my boat and just bolted up a 2009 225 Verado. Bumped up the PCM after running it as a 225... and i picked up almost 10 MPH and bumped 2 pitch sizes i prop. Don't discount the Verado.. the 225 to 350 all use same Block Porting everything.. Nothing more than a PCM Flash... Just my 2 Cents. If you're not down with the V-ROD i would say Yamaha F250. Robert |
