Default 23 WA Power

Gents - anyone running twins on their 23 hull? If so, what do you have and what do you like or dislike about 'em? Was also wondering how fuel consumption on twin lower HP motors equal to a single same HP compares? Can/how does the 23 hull handle the extra weight of twins vs a single weighing several hundred lbs lighter? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

No real world experience with a SC 23 but have had both on a mono hull with carbed 2 strokes. The Rambo 27 had twin 150 and would plane out on one with WOT of 30+.

My experience is with the old school 1 gal per hr. per 10 hp and a bit more with twins, more drag in the water. The Rambo was at best a lover of the fuel at 1.4 mpg at cruising speed of 34+- at 3400. Current sled running is 21.8 with a 175 and gets 2.5 +- at cruising speed of 24-29 at 3200-3800.

You will find in my opinion that twins make maneuvering at low speed ie: docking, spinning the boat a special enjoyment also the ability to get back on one when the inevitable happens.

The 23 Tsunami that is in the SLOW works will have a single 250/300 and a kicker 9.9. This has been decided on bc of price and total range.

Hi Nate, I'm new to powerboating and bought a 23WA and completed my repower last year. MP 5.7 Vortec and rebuilt steering hydraulics and replaced trim and tilt pumps and a few hoses plus rebuild the lower unit and complete paint and recondition of VP290A. I regret not buying a Floscan last year when I hauled out as they have closed their doors. I'm curious on your performance figures. Top speed? Cruising speed? Fuel consumption? I don't fully trust my fuel gauge as this is new to me so I have yet to determine my MPG. I have about 15 hrs on it breaking it in. I'm probably overpropped as I'm seeing 42 at about 3800. Gets on plane very quickly.

I ran twin '83 Evinrude 235's on the transom of a 23 SF back in the mid 80's. Great to get on plane easily with only one motor. handling was fantastic, even with both RH rotation motors. The weight was no issue, hull was rated for 500hp. It was still self-bailing with the older lighter V6 motors.
Fuel economy sucked. Averaged about 1.2-1.3 mpg, never got more than 1.7 that I know of, and that was a single long run from Palm Beach to Sebastian at about 25 mph all the way, offshore on an extra-smooth summer morning. (I did that because the trailer was broken).

I sold that boat to the town of Palm Beach and they had me put twin 150's on the back, and it performed fine, planing easily on a single engine as long as you tilted the other out of the water.
