Thawed pinfish
Any point in putting them in the pinfish trap? Old finger mullet thawed and a can of mackerel. Any intel? Have three day window to troll for (keeper) Gags 8-15’ pulling artificials. Like to have live bait on board. Thanks.

Have tried using both pinfish and grunts with very little success. My go to is sardines and threadfin also left over pork and ham.

Mike,
You are going to have to get deeper than 15' to really get into them. Start around 30' and you will do fine. Forget about bait.... you wont need it.

The pinfish did not eat the thawed finger mullet but the canned mackerel slammed them. Took 30 live out 8 miles to 8 feet. Killer Bee chum from Walmart, brought 50-75 pinfish to the boat.
Trolling good bottom brought a small black sea bass in, but plugs were constantly weeded. Anchored off spot, adjusted and it was on. 4 10-12” gags released. 4 big hits and Immediately rocked up. Never found out if they were 23 3/4”, or 27”!?! I’ve really only Bottom fished over 38 to 65’. Wicked timing adjustment. But fun, one foot seas and sunny. Beautiful today and tomorrow. Picking up another Owens and Sons trailer to bring back to a buddy in SC on Thurs. (rain event). Thursday they close for the holiday and have invited me to the company prime rib lunch. I know I’ve sold eight trailers for them now. Awesome family business. Great people. Best product! Michael. |
