Default eliminating transom floor seats / hatches 1970 20'

i am considering removing the two seat/hatches on the back of my 1970 20'.

i would continue the deck all the way back and place one larger floor hatch to access the bilge, engine wiring, water separator etc.

has anyone done this before? what are your thoughts?

It's been done. Do it. You will be very happy with the additional room back there especially if your console and leaning post is in the original location. Search for Seaplusplus' 20' redo.
