SpearCraft: a 23 Sceptre build
PROUD new owner of 1977 Sceptre here! Beauty they say is in the eye of the beholder. These eyes see the beauty and the potential. My wife on the other hand sees the years and years of mold and mildew, of rot and decay. She says climbing aboard it could possibly infect you with Ebola, rabies, norovirus, or any combination of deadly or otherwise debilitating sicknesses. I’ve worked in some seriously vile bilges, so I’m not quite so disturbed by the condition. I’ll see if I can post some pics. This rebuild will be terribly slow. Business is extremely busy seeing as how people can’t do all the stuff they used to do, but they can boat. I’ve had record months. We have been very fortunate. I’m going to pressure wash it maybe tomorrow and I’ll post an update.

Trust me when I say that more than one boat has followed me home that has unidentifiable fungus, mold, jissim, you name it.. Nothing that a pump sprayer filled with a chlorine solution and a pressure washer could not handle..... At least you have the vision to see through the muck !!! Good luck and tell us who, what, when, where you are...

Maybe someone can tell me what the function of the recessed floor area in the last photo is. I haven't bothered to remove the access hatch to look inside yet.

Originally there was an in-deck fishbox about 8" deep between the seats - I think thats what you are talking about, but it looks like someone added a pie hatch in the bottom of that. It looks like the pie hatch is about where a wood stringer-to-stringer cross brace supporting the box was. Originally there were also 1" drain holes in the bottom of the fish box in each aft corner - It really sucked getting fish guts into the bilge though. That may be my least favorite design feature of the Sceptre. Looks like it was an I/O (maybe twin?) before being converted to OB on a bracket but some of the aft hatches look different. Hard to tell what other mods from the photos till you get it cleaned up a bit; the first layer of needles n junk shouldn't be too bad to get out.

What Flex said...I edited your title from Spearcraft to Seacraft don't know if you meant to spell it that way...if so you can change it back..Welcome to the site...we have seen boats with trees growing out of them...yours should clean up nicely.

Yea it’s SpearCraft. I spearfish, so I’m naming the boat that. Got the inside pressure washed. That’s about it so far but I think in the next couple weeks I’ll pull everything off and start cutting stuff out

I’ve been spearfishing the Gulf for 25 years and my build and layout was fully focused on best facilitating such. If you live in Citrus County I’m right up the road East of Dunnellon if you want to see what it looks like.

Guys I’ve been looking at things and making plans and I wanted to get some feedback on the cap. The front coring is shot, I’m gonna have to cut the skin on the cap. The gunnel cap coring is mostly garbage also. Should I just cut the top skins and go that route or should I cut the cap where the coring ends and pull the cap off of the back and go thru the undersides as you would with a cc boat?

It would be less fairing if you could pull it and do from the underside.. plus you will have better access to the Coring...the skin is easier to remove as it’s not as thick as the top sides...I’ve never done a 23 scepter re core cap so take my advise with a grain of salt
