Default 23 SF - distance from step to console?

Hey All!

Been searching for this without much luck. I'm doing a rehab on a 23 SF and am mulling how far forward I can/should put the console.

Anybody able to give numbers on the distance from their casting deck step to the front of the console?

My back of my original console was 83 inches from the transom. If I put the new console (which is a contender/competition style with a big front door) in the same spot, the front door will be 48 inches off the front step.

I built a big fish box in front of the bilge and was hoping to install a nice 22X22 hatch over it - but if I put the console where the original one was, the leaning post will be over the front of the hatch.

If I move the console six inches forward - I have room for the big hatch.

That would give me about 42 inches between the front of the console and the step (without the cooler seat). With cooler seat, about 23 inches - which seems a bit tight.

I'm adding a bracket and single 300 to the boat

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

I have a '75 23' cc. It has the original full front door console. The console at the bottom is 52" fore to aft, including the door which protrudes 3". From the front of the door to the vertical step is 38". Hope this helps, if I didn't give you enough information let me know and I'll try again.

I have a 73 23 cc I redid a few yrs back with a 300 etec and stainless Marine bracket I pushed the console as far forward as I could just allowing the front lid to clear helps offset the weight transfer of the bracket

Wrote a previous reply, but it didn't post.

thanks for the help. From what I can tell just about all the stock consoles seem to be set just in front of that front deck hatch aft of the casting deck. I had a small console with a seat, and the seat met that hatch. I've seen the bigger consoles with the big door and they seem to be set with the door just in front of that hatch - about 39-40 inches off the step.

I'm going to put mine about there since I think it makes the most sense for COG, and I need the space in back. It's just going to be tight in front of that step once I put a cooler seat in front
