Introduction, with questions..

Hello,
and thank you for allowing me to join the community. I am 47 and have had boats all my life since I was 15. I have never had a Seacraft, but always loved the lines.. I am selling my Blackfin to downsize back to a sandbar boat, with offshore capabilities, of course.. so the search begins.. I have read alot of info, here, there, everywhere...
so 1 question I have relates to vintage. I know that most all here are Potter guys, but I do like the 21 from '98 on.. nice ride, huge difference over a 20. they are hard to find, but there is one in my town that may come up for sale, an 03.. so we can skip this one for now.
there is also an '84 23' for sale here, I know the boat well.. she is nice.. I will have to learn how to post pics.. boat has no top, basic electronics, 2009 F250 yamaha (4 stroke, but not the newer 4.2L) with electronic controls, fresh awlgrip on the hull, newer 110 gallon SS tank. no soft spots or structural issues. anybody want to throw a "ballpark" number of such a setup? I'm thinking low 20s?
any advice, or leads, will be helpful in my search.. thank you, Adam.

Welcome aboard! I think you would like either a newer 21 or a 23. Sorry, I can't offer any suggestions on the price of that 23 but sounds pretty good.

ok, let's talk this 1984 model. who made the boats in '84? I spent 2 hours on the boat yesterday on land. zero soft spots. felt really solid. she has a 110 gallon SS tank, not sure of replacement date. boat just needs the wood trim stripped and refinished, and the floors and gunnels could use repainting. the hull has been awlgripped in 2014, not a scratch or blemish on it. Is there any particulars I need to know about the 1984 models? I'm really liking the boat the more I look at it. I just feel the number is in the low 20s. right now, the owner is at 29K, which keeps me looking.. but I do know this local boat, and it looks very nice. the owner is a friend of mine which complicates the matter even worse, but he is a professional captain and is very anal about taking care of the boat and making sure everything works, as he would do on a 52' viking every day.. any advice, thoughts, or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get a recent engine print out with hours and time spent at different RPMs that would help people get a number for the engine. As far as the rest of it, I'd find out how old that tank is, if the deck or transom were ever replaced and if so, when and what material was used. Those are the basics to get some ball park numbers flowing for you. If he's a charter guy there's probably close to a thousand hours on the engine depending on location. If he just uses it in the weekend that's a different story. I would not shy away from an 84 hull. Granted it's not a potter but those hulls were still built pretty strong from what I hear. Is there a trailer included in the deal?

there is a trailer in the deal. I remember when he got the motor. there is 435 hours on it, 2009 yamaha F250. not the new 4.2 litre. he has babied it, although he admits he cruises it 4200-4400 rpm. the tank and transom have been replaced, just not sure of exactly when. this boat was not used for charter, just personal recreation. I will learn to post pics.

I have a T=Top off of a 1985 23 cc that was custom made and only a few years old.. I'm going to put up for sale not using it. If you buy this boat let me know if you have any interest..

Adam - Welcome. That would be a reasonable deal at low 20's, maybe 25k. I know how much he has into it since 2009, but it's cold and snowy and you have cash. If you've done a good inspection on the utilities of the boat, electrical, fuel,controls, etc., the 84 hull is, arguably, as good as the next if it is sound. If it's truly turn key, that's huge.

You'll love that boat even more when you own it. Let us know how your search goes.
