scepter 23 owner needs help
Have a 23 scepter with the notched transom and factory gigantic fish well located in transom splash well. My idea was to seal this up with caulking to seal it off and keep the backwash water out and install the plug on the outside of transom to keep it from filling with sea water . My main concern if I seal this up and any water does migrate past caulking I will have no way of removing any water. Any ideas on the best way of handling this? This is my first season with this boat, first time going in the water.

I installed my oil tank in the pretty much useless bait well, built a shelf big enough to hold the oil tank on the front of the bait well wall. To access the oil tank filler cap I installed a 6 inch water tight deck lid right over the filler cap on the hatch. I drilled a 1" drain hole in the bottom of the bait well on the slim chance water gets in. I did not caulk the bait well hatch shut, much too permanent, I removed the hinges, sealed and dressed up the screw holes and used some 1/4" x 1" marine foam strips as gasket material and used screws to hold the hatch in place....easy to remove if needed. And yes I plugged the drain never to be removed. Good luck.

I had one and now it looks like this. You need a bracket to offset the motor enough to give you the clearance to tilt your engine. The room you will gain is priceless.

If your not in the mood to enclose your transom at this time, I would take on Don's advice. Also make sure you move the steering , fuel and harness cables up a few inches and seal them with boots from water intruion coming over the transom.
I made this rocket launcher with a notch that could handle the engine tilt. Lot of good ideas to be found on this site ,just utilize the search function

Mel as well as myself has been itching to get offshore. We've made a couple of trips with Dad and some friends with the new egg beater and she really is a rocket. Mel loves the fly by wire shifter and hasn't thrown anyone out of the boat..... Yet

Mel also decided the new motor didn't match the tow vehicle. Got to love a woman with her priorities where they should be. 😀
