Default 1986 Seacraft 23 - HELP

hey guys - first post and hopefully first time owner soon.

Looking at a 86 23' had the fuel tank/closed transom+bracket done in 2015 powered by a 06 suzuki DF250 500 hours approx

I've done some digging on who built seacrafts this year and i've found its either tracker or CSY? any input around this would be greatly appreciated

much of the floor was ripped up and is raw marine ply right now, needs to be glassed, factoring that into my offer.

If it is a tracker build, is this something that is identifiable with the Hull ID number? Does the boat hold less value given the make or anything key to note on this year 23?

any info really appreciated thanks a ton

Josh

The draw, obviously, is the vdh hull. Regardless of who built the boat, you make it yours and the ride will be phenomenal. Good luck and welcome!

I think the general consensus is that the 86 hulls have a pretty solid hull layup. Good luck with the project and keep us updated.

I would factor ripping the heavy marine ply out and going with nidacore. You would also get a good look at what is hiding underneath.

I have had a potter and now a 86 walk around. Cant find any difference in hull strength. Cracks in gel coat on topsides (easily repaired)in the 86 but so would a potter by now. I replace deck w/ 3/4 marine ply and glassed sealed both sides before glassing in. Original exterior ply wood deck was glassed in at edges & painted and only had 2 soft spots so I’m not worrying about rot till I’m gone. I also like the weight matching original design parameters of boat. Light is great too but boat can fly around more in chop

I just purchased an 87' walkaround. Mine has at least 4" from the underside of the deck to the top of the stringers. So there are big blobs of bonding about 3 feet apart. Apparently there should have been more as there are spider cracks where the blobs of bonder are. Was your like that?

Are other models/vintages like that?

Mine had a couple of soft spots so I replaced all the deck. There are a couple of options which way to go. If it’s just spider cracks your worrying about those are easily fixed too. Depends on your confidence what under a 34 year old deck
