Default How much SHOULD it cost

I am thinking about biting the bullet and replacing my transom, any idea of the cost. It would include a full enclosure and I'm thinking about the Seamark bracket.

Sort of depends on where you have it done. I had estimates anywhere from $1800 - $3000. Add that to the cost of the Seamark bracket and you have a ballpark figure.

84, Are you doing the work your self? If so your looking at $600 +- for materials if you go with epoxy, cheaper if you use polyester. Then add another $3600 for the bracket, less for the single, but I recommend the twin even if you use one engine.

Up in New England.....a complete professional transom job (from the inside) starts at around $4,000 plus the cost of the bracket. It might be a bit less down near you.

PS - According to the man who designed the Hermco Bracket (Bill Potter)....in most cases you do not need to replace the transom when installing a HERMCO bracket. I dont know the specific details as to why (maybe because it bolts over the existing transom and gunnel??), but that is what he said when Jason, Mark and I were chatting with him in Florida. I am sure if you gave Don Herman at HERMCO a call, he could explain in great detail. Of course, for your own peace of mind, it cant hurt to replace it anyway.

I had the same prices for a transom job, 4-6k, plus the bracket. It's not a horrible job to do your self if your handy and not in a rush.

Even with the ant farm the transom was tight, I just didn't feel like redoing the whole boat and leaving something out. But if you look at Hermans bracket it make sence, it bolts across the entire tansom basically pulling the whole thing in tight, plus it's got a "V" that adds boyancy. Very simple really.

I should have my Seamark bracket in a few days, I'll let you guys know what I think when it comes. I can't see it going on the boat before fall, unfortunatly.
