Master switch and isolator wiring
I am getting ready to add dual batteries to my 18cc. I planned to add a dual battery
master switch and an isolator. I am a little confused on the wiring process. Upon looking at the diagrams that came with the switch and isolator and am unable to figure out exactly how to wire them together correctly. I am wanting to use one battery for starting and one for electronics and allow the motor to charge them together but have the capability to utilize the deep cycle electronics battery for starting in a pinch. I would like the motor to power everything while it is operating. Any help, suggestions, or lewd comments would be appreciated!!! (well maybe not the lewd comments) |

Forget the isolator and wire the battery switch with one battery to terminal #1 and the other to terminal #2 the Common feed will power your motor etc. When you have the motor running switching the battery switch to the "All" position will allow the charging of both batteries by the motor allowing both to come up to full charge.Switching to the #1 position will allow the charging of the #1 battery alone etc.Be sure to keep the water level up in your batteries or you are f*****.

Just as a side note, after installing the switch in the aforementined manner, don't get in the habit of starting the boat on one batt then switching the selector to a different position. Its really hard on most outboard motor electrical systems and can eventually fry the regulator rectifier in your motor. Instead start it on "all" and leave it there. If you stop and fish or anchor and swim, switch it to one or the other for running live wells and electronics so you have a spare fully charged batt to get the boat started again. But don't swith the batts while the engine is running.
