how much power do I needed?

thankx for answering my post, so you think it would be better to get another 175hp-200hp as oppose to the 150? What was your fuel consumption like with the 150 merc? And if I purchased another engine it would be an EFI.

I just checked the yamaha website and the 200 hp is only 27 more pounds than the 150 (453lbs to 426lbs). This is for the 2005 engines. If you go to their website and click the performance bulletins they give a good preformance review of most of their motors tested on a whole bunch of different boats, no seacrafts but some comparable sized boats. I'm in the same boat as you (literally) except I have no motor now. I'm thinking early next year I will be looking to purchase a new one. I'm going either with the yamaha (2-stroker) 150 or 200. If the price difference isn't that great then it will probably be the 200. Good luck -Will

I like the 150 There almost Bullet proof.Same block as the 200 Just not bored out which gives You more Steel to bang on.I thought the 150 actually weighed more than the 200? If I had My Druthers a 200 would go back & prob. a Carb'd. Just old in thought ,I know what I'm looking at under the cowling.Butttt then the 4 stroke are sounding good too.

I'm undecided about which to buy - the old fashoned carburetor motors or the newer EFI. I'm definately going to buy one of the two due to much less $$$ opposed to a HPDI or 4stroke. I've heard that the EFI is not much more fuel efficient and a whole lot more expensive to work on. Can anybody chime in on the efficiency differences between a carburetor motor and an EFI on a 150 or 200.

I agree with you Will, When Mercury has their re-power special at the end of the year I'm getting the Merc 225 saltwater classic. I should come in around 10k ( I hope )

Another option.........I bought my 2003 225 Mercury EFI 25" shaft for my 23 CC last September from Eckerd College in St. Pete. They buy new engines every year and sell the year old used ones to the public. I paid $7600 for mine with 502 hours.

There may be a college in your area with a "Marine" depatment that does the same.

One thing NOT to do with the Mercury.....run with a low or bad battery!! Screws up the computer big time.

I'm running an '02 carbed Merc. 150 on my 1985 20' Grady CC, which I believe is a few hundred pounds heavier than the 20' SeaCraft. Especially, since she's not so dry anymore. [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img] At 3600, I'm burning 6.5 gal/hr and making about 24 mph. At 4000, I'm burning 7.5 gal/hr and making about 28 mph. She spins up to 5400 in the summer and gives me just about 40 mph. Can't tell you what I burn at WOT cause I never look at the Navman then.

Every once in a while, I wish I had more power, but there aren't many opportunities when I'd actually get to use it.

I run an 88spl on my 19 BR which is the same boat just measured from a differant place. I get a 30mph cruise out her with two guys and loaded for fishing. I have a hard top with enclosure and outriggers. My outboard guy told me 75% 100% of the time is the best for an outboard so with the 88 75% is my cruise and I can run it in allmost every sea and not pound the boat and I'm not getting in everyones way either. As the picture shows she's fast enought to bend the antennas
