Awl Grip, console, aft deckplate question

Greetings,
This is a tremondous web site. Thanks for the great work. I have a 23'3" 73 cc that had the transom "replaced" last winter. The Awl grip has bubbled and chipped on one of the seams where the new transom connects. This indcates (to me) that there is water in the transom trying to find its way out. Does anyone agree with this assessment and if so any recomended solutions? How do you patch Awl grip?

Also does anyone know where I can get a windshield for my original console?

Finally, what is the best method for keeping the aft deckplate watertight and still accessable? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to CSC. I noticed from your web site that you're in Chatham. That is a great area to fish and there is quite a collection of classic SCs too

. I'll let some of the experts speak to your transom issue, but as far as a windshield goes, try Palco Plastics in Whitman. There may be a more local shop on the Cape, but Palco does a nice job.

For the aft deckplate, I'm guessing you mean the rectangular hatch in the splashwell. If so, you should try a watertight hatch from Bomar.

The boat is in the water from mid May through mid Oct.

Boat paint In Not recommended to be kept under the water line for over 2 to 3 weeks max at any one time. Will result in problems you describe. The exception to this is of course bottom paint which is designed to be under the water line. Could this paint be continually receiving a dipping from the bay? Do you have bottom paint? Is the bottom paint high enough up that your awlgrip is not receiving a dipping? These all could be your problem.

The awl grip is above the waterline. The bottom paint is high enough. It seems like the Awl Grip blistered specifically where the seam of the new transom is. (where the new meets the old) This area is dry unless, of course, I am making way. At this point I have to "patch" the Awl Grip and make it look like new.

Boy, lot of Seacrafts in Chatham area! I'm in Orleans with a 1974 20 SF. I'll primarily be in pleasant bay with it, but will undoubtedly go through the cut in Chatham sometime, hope to see you guys around. Oh, blistering sounds like moisture. Can you bring it back to whoever did the transom? It's still early they might not be too busy yet.
