1969 SeaCraft 20ft CC Splash / Spray Rail Repairs

I have just purchased a 1969 20ft center console SeaCraft and completed a bout 5 shakedown runs/cruises. I have a small section of splash rail on the starboard side that is missing and couple of areas on both sides are a little loose. I am located in Apollo beach, FL and am looking for some suggestions or local help to make the repairs. They are teak that have been painted white. Are these factory or aftermarket add-ons? Thanks....

WOW, the Tampa Bay crew keeps growing. Thats 3 boats in Apollo alone. The spray rail is after market as far as I know. You could get a piece of teak and cut and form to missing section 5200 or 4200 to hull and secure to hull with screws and plug screw holes then paint. Or since its painted maybe another type of wood or plastic. Why people paint teak I don't know. I'm no expert but I could help.

Whats the best way to locate the screws in the existing teak? Would a stud finder work? I guess that I would have to drill down through the plug, find the screwhead, and either tighten it or replace it, install new plug, cut to fit paint to match, something like that.....

I have a 69 also. Is your console in its original position. From pics it looks like maybe a pathfinder console?

I am not sure of the console but its position is original I believe. At the back of the boat between the transom and seat there were only about 12" to walk behind. After fishing one time I decided that this was just not going to cut it. I removed the console and stripped everything off of the deck. It was then acetone scrubbed, sanded and then had all the extra holes filled. I sprayed 3 coats of gelcoat and then ran 1" tape around all the edges and hatch openings. I rolled the last coat on using a tight knap roller to provide texture and then removed the tape. Looks pretty darn good if you asked me. I moved the console 8" forward and re-secured it with new SS hardware and 5200 caulking. I totaly redid the existing wiring harness which was pretty butchered. I used dielectric grease and heat shrink connectors for all connections. Looks much better and I know that I will not have to worry about it for a long time. Just re-installed the cusions and rubrail tonight. Hatch covers, speakers tomorrow and then hopefully back in the water tomorrow night. Quite a bit of work over the past 2 weeks but that extra room that I gained at the back was worth it, plus it looks brand new topside now.

Welcome.......when you say "missing", you mean where piece of spray rail is gone in the picture it's completely lost?? You don't have it to reuse? Not sure about the stud finder, however I'm thinking if you were to sand the paint off the outside edge it should give away the filler used to cover the screws in the teak.

The Teak spray rails were an after thought by the factory.
Installed they are two solid lengths of wood with stainless
screws about a foot apart. My guess the damaged area
was cut out. If you sand down the paint you will find
the counter sunk teak plugs that were used to secure it
to the hull. 5200 will NOT bond to the teak!

Ditto on the 5200 on teak. There was a teak block that my control cables went through to prevent chafing and was sealed with 5200. When I replaced it, the 5200 separated from the teak with very little effort. I'm still trying to get the 5200 off of the cables.

Yes, completely missing. It was not there when purchased. I may cut the other one off to match. They are both a little loose in various places too.
