This is a great history lesson as close to the source as possible, Thankyou Carla. Btw I rent a boat slip up here to a nice guy near Atlantic City who is one of your neighbors down there.

That is a piece of history, hope someone treats her right. I'd love to take that rare SC, a 44' & 61' Garlington too please. And of course keep my 20'. My boat stable would be perfect!

OK guys on to the next topic. Following the title chain, sorry but, it isn't going to happen. The owner before me got the boat from someone who owed him money at his marina in Jupiter. He then took the boat from Florida to North Carolina, where you do not need to title a boat to register it. I actually brought it home from Hatteras NC one summer after fishing up there and he just wrote me a notarized letter so I could get a title back in Florida.

I could be tempted to make this boat a perfect dream. I got to meet richard garlington a few times even before he sold his company to landeweres. He was a class act. And if he gave you the info on this hull then it is true. I remember him saying he never made any money in the boat building business until he started yacht surveying after selling. I been there also.

If anyone does go after the history of this boat and they are at a loss in hatteras. I still have more then a few local friends alive down there and I am usually there a few times fishing every year. I might have even seen this boat down there and not known it was a moesly sea craft many years ago. Many years ago a local from south jersey bought a 27 black fin OB CC that was so unique like this boat.{ 8 ft beam!! Not the typical wide bertram looking blackfin} Very similar. It was narrow and had two old johnsons on it. It had about as much gunnel height on it as my sons very custom moesly sea craft 20. The guy that owned that boat who I still see and fish occasionally with kicks his self in the arse for ever selling that rarity. He has a twin diesel boat now but wished he kept that narrow 27 fter. Hope you dont end up regretting selling? Good luck on the sale I hope. So I am not tempted. If anyone does want to buy it and close the transom and put a bracket on it. It could be done if the boats design is factored in and the engine choice or choices is light.

Bigshrimpin ... thanks for the photos ... adds dimension to the story.
Caymanboy ... Rosemary Young was a tough racing competitor, and hubby Phil kept her engines running, but don't remember a Gardner Young.

#31 was a 25' SeaCraft

Twins would add more stability and shallower draft.

I wonder how many races this 27' won?

You guys on the West coast of Fla with 30 miles or greater to your fishing hole... wouldn't you like to get there in 30 minutes or less?

If you got that 27 in Jupiter it was probably owned by a broker named Wayne Roman. He was a broker for Gilman Yacht Sales and bought the boat from his boss Dave Gilman. It was painted yellow and named "Bananas" and had plywood gunwales with spruce carlins. That was in the late 70's. There was another one here in those days with twin Volvo inline 6 engines and single lever controls. It was a little confusing because the bow ballast tank was controlled with the same shift levers as the engines. One let the water in, one let it out. Very nice ride and not as rolly as you'd think.

According to Richard it had I/O's in it originally...

Could very well be the same boat..

Hi FG1,
I have heard the "Bananas" story before but, I never did get confirmation from my boss on whether it was the same boat. With Wayne being a salesman at that time it would fit how my boss acquired her. The other boat might be a possibility also, because she definitely had IOs at one time. When I skinned the transom down for rebuilding you could see where the outdrive holes had been patched.

Well it would be impressive to see what the whiz kid could do with twin chrome bore 2.4Ls on that historic hull but something tells me the lad is content whacking Stripers at E-Rocks with that E-tec powered 23.

How 'bout you ESD - You're an advocate for power - first one to the pass gets the big one haaangggg onnn!!!
