Default Rebuilt 20' Sea Craft CC? Need boat builders opinions!

Hey guys, I am very seriously interested in a 20' 1972 sea craft CC. The boat was redone in 2011 with a new composite floor, transom and paint and gel coat and all. I have not seen the boat in person, but a buddy has. Granted, he is not a boating expert but it helps. Anyways, I wanted to get yalls opinion on the boat and the way it looks to be built. The transom was filled in the back and squared off and now has an armstrong bracket holding up the 2001 hpdi 150 yamaha. My buddy looked all over the boat and said everything felt solid... like the floor and transom and bracket. But, another one of my friends (based on the pictures here) said it looked like they did a shabby job on the transom rebuild and the boat looked like it needed work. Can anyone that really knows these boats or knows rebuilding boats give me an opinion? How do yall think it looks? Thanks!

So, based on the pictures... what do yall think? How much do you think I should pay for a boat like this? Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it!!!

I calso can't comment on the qualty of the platform but here is my humble opinion

1st if I were selling my boat it would be clean....really clean
Pine needle around the batteries, it looks like the inside of the console next to batteries is dirty
Bilge area also dirty...lines thrown on the deck, wires hanging along the insides

just a bad impression when one goes to see a boat for sale

2nd the hatch area looks to be poorly done if it was done by a pro

but depending on the price and what you want it to look like then maybe

just make sure the major things have been done right

Just my 2 cents worth

My 2c.
I saw that you also had the same posting on THT, but I didn't want to jump in the fray over there.
People alway feel that because they put x amount into a boat, they should get return on that money, that is not the case if it is poorly done.
These are some items I would consider or ask about.
1) It is a single engine bracket, not much flotation there, the boat looks like it floats VERY low in the stern, look at the scum line on the bracket and on the bow of the boat.
2) There has been some home made ventilation cuts in the prop, they are trying to get this thing out of the hole.
3) The overall craftsmanship of the re-do is very poor, and this is the stuff you can see, what about what you can't?
4) How does the deck drain? 72's did not go through the bottom.
5) The wiring and rigging is poorly done.
6) Check to see that it has a clear title, and is the right title.
All that being said, there is some value to stuff, hull, t-top, engine. Decide if the boat suits your needs, decide if you want a continuing project, check to see if the engine is good. Make an offer on that.
In my opinion, it is not a turn key boat for that kind of money.

I would cut it a little slack if the pictures were taken by your buddy who went to go see it. If you rushed to clean to the boat every time a looker came to kick the tires, you would go crazy.

You cannot tell anythign about the quality of the transom job by those pictures, you need to know what materials were used, who did the work, and pictures of the re-build. Anyone re-building should take MANY pictures so you can document the quality of the work !

Also, just becasue the hatches are rough does not mean anything other than the hatches are rough. For a pure fishing boat, I personally would not go much nicer. For a fishing boat where functionality is of first concern, I would actually just slap a few pre-made hatches on there.

fuel/water separator needs hose clamps.

One thing you did not mention is that tank, ask if its original and if it was moved/replaced?

I do not know about the drainage, you need to talk to the guy who rebuilt it. Who ever it was did a pretty good job on the enclosure, the edges are fair and it blends into the sole pretty well. Its not a bad job from what I can tell by the pictures - which is not much Talk to the guy yourself, get the full scoop from him, and ask for pictures of the rebuild!

Also looks like the bracket is cracked. If you dont feel like you can asess the condition on your own , hire a surveyor to look it over. He will probably tell you much of the same things Caymanboy has told you unfortunately.

I think i am going to pass on it just because to me it doesn't look like it was done up to snuff. It just worried me. I really want to buy something that is turn key and looks correctly built. I don't want to have to sink 2k into something the first 2 weeks i own it. Thanks for the advice guys.

With that bait tank in the transom being off center would you need trim tabs to make it ride level?
