I used the exact primer the last few weeks in temps just under 50 and it cures just fine and pretty quick too. Are you using perfection for the top coat?

Chance, thanks, it cured fine, put a second coat on tonight. Yep Perfection in Oyster White. I painted my leaning post with it last year with good results.
Does anyone know if I can use Interlux Bilgekote over epoxy/glass? Or does it need to be primed first? Any alternatives? Looking for something quick and easy for the inside of the fish box I just insulated. |

Going to look sweet without those boxes. They look so out of place on the savage

I like interlux products but the Bilgekote is a one part paint that will flake after a few years. I mention using it once and many stepped in to change my mind. Some say use gel coat with a additive for bilge applications and others say coat it with epoxy resin. In mine I coated it with left over epoxy resin then 2000e epoxy primer then sealed it off with a 2 part epoxy paint. I think either will last longer than the bilgekote. It is a good chemical, gas restant paint but lacks the strength of 2 part product. I wish interlux would come out with a 2 part epoxy base coating that was designed for those conditions.

Looks great. I'm using interlux perfection as well and so far I like it. This weekend is my last hurdle. Two coats of Snow White on the inside bulkheads than I'm done for this year. Gotta go fishin!

Thanks guys. Agreed, those boxes just didn't look right. The hand rails were a bit out of place too, so those are history. If anyone can use a roughly 8' length of stainless rail - about 6.5' + another ~18" at a ~45* bend - let me know. One is free to a good home, the other will become a center rigger.
Frizzle, thanks, you prob just saved me some headaches. Will do 2-3 coats of Primecoat on the fishbox instead. Second coat of Primecoat on the cabin tops was still tacky this morning probably because it got humid and dumped rain last night. Hopefully it will be fully cured by this evening so I can apply the first top coat. I mixed a little too much Primecoat last night so I decided to paint the cabin/anchor locker bulkhead, which was just bare 1/2" plywood. Anchor locker with become an actual functioning anchor locker with the addition of hatches on this bulkhead and on the top cap next week. You guys may have noticed I don't have cushions in the cabin. Got a quote last year for marine foam wrapped in white vinyl for around $2k, which is not happening. If anyone knows a decent, affordable upholsterer in MA or has Sceptre/Tsunami/Savage cabin cushions available please let me know. Anyone know if I can change the original title of this thread to "1978 23 Savage Inboard - Ongoing Projects"? A lot more happening now than when I originally posted. Cheers, Mike |

Aft Deck plate is up for sender replacement, wiring clean-up, re-pack rudder post, beef up 36 year old muffler and run livewell plumbing. Tell ya what, there is not much real estate in the bilge of this boat.
This is the underside of the aft deck plate, which I believe the previous owner had recored and glassed around 2010. Already knew the deck was solid, and this glass job looks very clean: Tanks and muffler. Tanks were new in 2011, so not sure why but one of the senders failed. Will replace both while deck is up. Muffler is old as dirt and has a couple patches on it. Plan is to pull it, grind and re-wrap in glass. Then removed wrap from refrigerated pack of meat, added some secret ingredients, formed into patties, grilled and consumed. Cheers, Mike |
