Default 70hp 2 stroke yamaha question

So I have a very good running clean 70 yami on a whaler, the problem is it is very very difficult or impossible to get it to take the initial prime of fuel. I squeeze the primer ball and after 4-5 squeezes the primer ball is hard, normal. Engine won't fire. Pick up the primer and feels soft again. Prime some more (a lot actually) and now the primer ball won't fill and get real firm, but not flat soft either. So I put some gas in 2 of the 3 carbs and she fires right off and runs flawlessly. Ive checked all the fittings and swapped out the primer ball. Fuel pump looked fine when I opened it up, as well the little filter on the engine is clean. Any thoughts? Thanks

Here's my thoughts.

Remove the down stream side of primer ball, squeeze, if it flows put back in line.
Remove the gas supply line at the motor, squeeze the ball again, if flow re install the gas hose. Then go to the under cowl filter, repeat.

In other words start at some point in the fuel circuit and test down steam or up stream. I'm pretty sure it"s some thing simple.

I’m wondering if you have some of the silver fuel line that has a liner inside. Our fuel today will eat up the liner causing it to collapse on itself. Think of drinking an ice cream shake through a very thin walled straw.

Thank you, well heres what transpired. After taking most of the fuel delivery system apart, checking fuel flow, etc etc, and reassemble with everything working as it should. I decided to pump the primer ball as usual and then take the throttle and "pump" that as well, like an I/O or old carb vehicle, put back in neutral and it fires right off. A bit strange, but it works. Also this is an engine with no choke, electric or manual but thats what it takes. I'm sure thats not how it was designed but oh well. Thanks for the input guys.

Default Pumping Throttle

Not sure about Yammies, and assuming your gesrshift and throttle are the same lever (unlike shen I was a kid), got reminded again recently not to engage the gearshift/throttle unless the engine was running or the prop was being rotated by hand. The BoatUS. Video said this could stress the gears, cables, etc.

Yes the throttle has one lever, but its a side mount binnacle with a fast idle small lever on top of the binnacle. Not like the top mount binnacle where you push the button on the base of the lever for fast idle or to pump the fuel. Its not the way it was intended when it was new but it makes it fire off pumping the fuel like that. Thanks.

Default Fast Idle Lever

Thanks. After 5 yesrs of owning an ETEC I forgot about the fast idle lever. The ETEC has a short lever next to the throttle lever which is used when doing winterizing. Lift it, start and run engine for 15 seconds, push it down for 15 seconds, then raise it again and the engine races for about a minute then shuts down. Even after a couple months it starts within seconds.
